Once Upon a Garage

Converting a third car bay into living space was a no-brainer in this home. Not only was it unused for parking, it was adjacent to a large storeroom and a dysfunctional prior addition that lacked a bathroom.

Budget and land use parameters specified that access to the main electrical panel must be maintained and that the home’s exterior appearance would not be modified.

Despite the design limitations, underutilized spaces previously filled with old furniture and paint supplies were repurposed into an additional 600 square feet of stylish multi-functional living.

Project Profile

  1. Retain garage door and existing window openings.

  2. The exterior of the home was not to be modified.

  3. Add a bathroom with shower.

  4. Add a utility/storage space.

  5. Floor plan to offer flexibility for multiple purposes:
    guest quarters, office, exercise, projects, media room, etc.
