Craftsman Recrafted

This Craftsman wannabe had 10 kitschy columns that topped half-wall room dividers, awkward hallways angled off toward bedrooms, doors & windows sized too small and set too low. The finishing included pressed crown molding & chair rails in the dining area, an off-the-shelf fireplace surround in the living room, purple & white tiles, blue Formica, & under-sized appliances. A pot-belly stove was scrunched into a corner, mock river rock pasted on the entry columns. Maybe the original designer felt these contrivances would resonate authentic character….since they don’t, why not mix in contemporary?

Project Profile

  1. Knock out the half-walls, the columns, the moldings, the low entry doorways, the fireplaces. Patch walls & ceilings as necessary.

  2. Improve floor plan without moving structural walls or plumbing.

  3. Gut the kitchen & master bath. Upgrade cabinets, appliances, fixtures, lighting, all surfaces. Redesign fireplace. Replace doors.

  4. Hardwood floors, new bedroom carpet. Paint inside & out.

  5. Expand views with larger windows but gain privacy from neighboring homes.

  6. Stick to the tight budget buck! (Compromise, compromise...)
